GRACE has initiated a learning and piloting project on “Drum-Based Fish Culture (Aquaculture)” as an innovative, climate-resilient, and space-efficient fish farming approach.

The pilot aims to explore the feasibility, productivity, cost-effectiveness, and income-generation potential of fish culture using plastic drums, particularly for poor and climate-vulnerable communities.

Following the research and pilot phase, the approach will be demonstrated at the community level, especially in areas affected by waterlogging, limited land availability, and lack of access to conventional ponds. The initiative aims to assess whether drum-based fish culture can provide a practical income-generating opportunity for low-income households.

As part of the research, aquarium-based fish culture will also be explored as a potential home-based income-generating option for households with very limited space.

Through this initiative, GRACE aims to develop a low-cost, climate-resilient, space-efficient, and replicable aquaculture model that can support vulnerable households and strengthen their livelihood resilience.
