Social Safety Net for Vulnerable Urban Population
Addressing vulnerability through community-based social safety nets
Extreme poverty remains a persistent challenge in many communities, where households face food insecurity, limited income opportunities, and social marginalization. Vulnerable families often lack access to basic necessities and sustainable livelihoods, making them disproportionately affected by economic shocks, natural disasters, and social inequities. Without targeted interventions, these households struggle to break the cycle of poverty, impacting not only their immediate well-being but also the broader community’s development.

Recognizing this critical need, GRACE has introduced Community-Based Social Safety Net (CBSSN) systems, designed to enhance resilient social equity and promote justice by empowering the most marginalized households.
Donor Supported Initiatives and Impact

Through the generous internal support of 10 dedicated donors providing ZAKAT funds, GRACE has been able to reach and uplift the most vulnerable families in the community. Key achievements include:
• Direct Support to Extreme Poor Families: A total of 105 ultra-poor households benefited from targeted assistance. Families received nutrient-rich food packages during Ramadan 2025 and additional support for Eid-ul-Adha, ensuring both nutritional security and festive inclusion.
• Livelihood Development through Income-Generating Activities (IGAs): Six program participants were supported to launch small businesses, which have already resulted in additional monthly incomes ranging from 3,000 to 25,000 BDT, significantly improving household financial resilience.

• Community Replication of Successful Business Models: Two small business models pioneered by GRACE have been successfully replicated within the community, creating scalable pathways for self-reliance and economic empowerment.

Transformative Outcomes
These interventions go beyond immediate relief by fostering long-term resilience and social equity. Families now have access to nutritious food, sustainable income opportunities, and the tools to break intergenerational poverty cycles. The program also strengthens community solidarity, demonstrating how strategic donor support can catalyze meaningful change.

By combining targeted social safety nets with livelihood empowerment, GRACE is redefining the way extreme poverty is addressed transforming vulnerability into opportunity and ensuring that no family is left behind.
